USAID MISSION DIRECTOR TO LAUNCH SECOND PHASE

OF COUNTER TRAFFICKING CAMPAIGN

Sarajevo, March 28, 2007 – The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is pleased to announce that USAID Mission Director Jane Nandy will speak at a press conference to present results of the first phase of the Counter Trafficking Campaign and launch its second phase.  The press conference will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in Hotel Bosnia in Sarajevo.   All media are invited to attend.

The campaign intends to prevent trafficking in persons by providing information and education about the risks and dangers of involvement in trafficking in BiH.  The International Organization for Migration (IOM) along with local partner non-governmental organizations implement the project.

The first phase focused on educational workshops in BiH schools and production of information materials on trafficking.  In its second phase, the campaign will distribute the materials and inform the general population about the dangers associated with trafficking and recruiting methods.  In addition, men will be informed about the implications of their involvement with prostitution and trafficked persons.

The campaign is implemented through a USAID-funded program which aims to help BiH prevent trafficking in persons.
