PRESS RELEASE
Sarajevo, December 9, 2007 – The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is pleased to announce that USAID Mission Director Jane Nandy will present the awarded BiH tourism booth. The ceremony, which will take place on Monday, December 10, at 4:00 p.m. at Vijecnica Building in Sarajevo, will be the first opportunity for the BiH public to see the booth which will be made available to BiH institutions for future usage. A USAID-funded tourism booth won first prize at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, the largest tourism fair in the world. Over 200 countries and 5,500 exhibitors participated this year. Support for the booth is part of USAID’s efforts to promote BiH as a tourism destination. USAID’s assistance in tourism promotion included support for the award- winning booth, production of promotional video spots and the creation and promotion of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s tourism brand. These efforts contributed to a 19% increase in tourist arrivals to BiH this year. Through its Cluster Competitiveness Activity (CCA), USAID works to improve tourism sites and events, develop a BiH tourism policy, and train tourism professionals. USAID supports economic growth in BiH by advancing the business success of the country’s tourism and wood sectors. To date, the U.S. Government, through USAID, has provided over $1 billion in assistance to support economic, democratic and social progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
