PRESS RELEASE
Sarajevo, November 26, 2007 – The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is pleased to announce that USAID will organize two training sessions on safety at work and risk assessments for labor inspectors and representatives of the RS Labor Ministry, trade unions and employer associations. The training session will start on Monday, November 26, 2007, at 9 a.m. in Hotel Slatex, in Slatina, near Banja Luka. The training will include both site visits and lectures on safety at work. The two training sessions in Banja Luka are part of USAID’s Enabling Labor Mobility Activity’s (ELMO) support to local counterparts in fostering more effective compliance labor obligations. Earlier, the project organized three study visits to Germany and Poland for BiH counterparts, enabling them to see how the application of modern inspection standards work in practice. Through its ELMO project, USAID is working with local counterparts to reduce barriers to labor mobility in BiH by promoting flexible and diverse forms of labor relations. In addition to efforts aimed at more effective application of labor obligations, ELMO will work with institutional counterparts from the RS and the Federation to create a single automated system for the collection of work history information and social contributions.
