PRESS RELEASE
Sarajevo, March 10, 2008 – The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is pleased to announce its support to Interio `08, the international fair of forestry, wood industry, furniture, and interior decoration, which will take place in Sarajevo, Skenderija Center, on March 13 - 17, 2008. In cooperation with BiH’s private wood industry, the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber, trade ministries, and Center Skenderija, USAID`s Cluster Competitiveness Activity (CCA) is supporting the fair’s effort to become a major regional annual fair for the wood industry in Southeast Europe. As part of the Interio fair, CCA encouraged organizing the First Annual BiH Wood Industry Convention. The convention will include a Business-to-Business (B2B) meeting between BiH wood producers and international buyers and agents, a two-day seminar on wood industry products and markets, and the First Annual Regional Design Competition. In addition, CCA provided support for a joint “Best of Bosnia” stand. The stand will serve as a central information point for the Interio ’08 fair. It displays contemporary furniture and wood industry products of BiH manufacturers in an integrated living space layout. These new features are expected to increase the number of exhibiting companies and visitors at Interio `08 and to improve the trade show’s space appearance. CCA’s goal is to increase the rate of economic growth in the wood processing and tourism sectors, raise productivity, profitability and employment, and assist the private sector in becoming increasingly competitive in national and international markets. To date, the U.S. Government, through USAID, has provided over $1 billion in assistance to support economic, democratic and social progress in BiH.
