USAID HELD TRAINING SESSION ON MODERN LABOR INSPECTION

Sarajevo, January 11, 2007 – The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is pleased to announce that USAID organized a two-day training session on modern labor inspection for inspectors from the Federation.

The session entitled “Modern Labor Inspection: Concepts, Policies and Practice” represents an initial step in cooperation between USAID’s Enabling Labor Mobility Activity (ELMO) and the Federation Inspectorate.  More than 40 inspectors from Federation and cantonal inspections, representatives from the Federation Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, trade unions and employers attended the session in Mostar.  Topics included the role of labor inspection in economies in transitions, concept of a new labor inspection policy, modern occupational safety practice, risk assessment principles and introduction of the manual for training and work of labor inspectors.

This training is a part of USAID’s support to local counterparts in fostering more effective compliance labor obligations.   Through its ELMO project, USAID is working with local counterparts to reduce barriers to labor mobility in BiH by promoting flexible and diverse forms of labor relations. In addition to efforts aimed at more effective application of labor obligations, ELMO will work with institutional counterparts from the RS and the Federation to create a single automated system for the collection of work history information and social contributions.
